Getting Great Service
Once in awhile husband and I take the kids out to Dairy Queen for a treat.
My favorite treat since college, has always been the peanut buster parfait.
The kids like a Dilly bar, the husband always a dipped cone.
We enjoy our treat, but the service is not great. Slow and careless.
The teenagers spend more time chatting than greeting customers, and seem to all have one arm and hand that is limp and useless. Sore from too much cell phone chatter or video, computer game entertainment. What ever the problem it seems unavoidable. Although I have brought it up to the managers attention many times.
While the other day, I got more than peanuts, I bit down on something hard and woody.
Rolled it around in my mouth, fearful tp spit it out. As you just never know.
After realizing this was truly a unedible extra I spit it out to examine.
"What is it?" We all asked.
Seemed to be a big piece if peanut plant root.
So I took my little surprise to the counter to show the manager.
As everyone gathered around for a good look. They're mouths dropped with awe.
I gave the manager my name and phone number as he requested.
Last week the kids and I went in. I was greeted right away, the order was taken quickly and efficently and no icecream was spilling over the edge of the bowl or cones. It was a great day for good service. And no roots, just peanuts.
Later that day I recieved a phone call from the owner. He discussed and apologized for the root. Then asked me what our favorite treat was. He said he would be sending out coupons for all our favorite treats, and asked that I call him anytime if I ever have a problem again.
So what have I learned from this? If you find service lacking, don't complain, just take a pebble, root, rock or screw and stuff it in your mouth, show all the people that work there. Wince and wine a little and before long service for you as a customer will be top notch. Really.

Aha... I shall remember this when I go out again... and I'm glad it was only part of the peanut plant, not some body part (Ewwww... but then, the finger in the Wendy's chilli was planted by the customer, guess they already learned the lesson to great service?)

My husband and I recently visited a Harvey's Restaurant for a veggie burger. We were pleasantly surprised when the cook took great care to ensure that the grill was squeaky clean before cooking our burgers (we did not request this, but it was very nice to know that our dietary preference was taken into great consideration). We were also pleased with the level of general cleanliness at the restaurant.
When we were finished eating, we made a point of telling them how impressed we were.
It seems so much less often that we are provided with great service anymore (I have visited many a business like the one you describe in your story), so it was very important for us to let them (the ones who are doing things well) know that it is appreciated.
