Thirty-Something Politics
Lately I have felt my head being tightened in a vice of social politics. The thirty-something mental and moral decline that seems to occur after the age of thirty. Wives leaving husbands, Mothers leaving children, and bed hopping like a viral infection.
I have tried to wrap myself in a shield of protection from the moral chaos that surrounds me, while still trying to remain unjudgemental.
Though tonight I am freeing myself from the thirty-something politics.
I cannot smile wholeheartedly and praise those women whom found the grass greener on the other side. I cannot feed a Mother the cultural ideal that their happiness is just as important as their families. That their self-esteem is above all other things, and needs to be nurtured. I am not saying that all married women should stay with their husbands, but if it is so bad you need to leave a man.....then don't be running to the arms of another crying the blues.
When families are broken because the relationship is to dry, the whole dynamics change. The children are affected, the families and extended families and close friends. The role of motherhood is a truly unselfish one. How does this show unselfishness?
I try not to be too critical, try to be open minded, try to understand. But I cannot. Just because my garden is dry does not mean I wish for rain so much that it floods my whole community. That would be devastating. All it takes is a little more effort on my part to water my garden once in a while.
